Elk Grove Illinois Real Estate
Incorporated in 1956 when Centex began developing its vast farmlands, the Cook County, Illinois municipality of Elk Grove Village is now home to over 33,000 residents in a revitalized commercial area. Unlike most northern Chicago suburbs, Elk Grove Village actually began to develop as the highway system, not the rail transit system, was constructed. The benefit to residents is that many of the houses in this 11.0 square mile plot of land were built later and are in better overall condition.
Most of the homes in the community were built during the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s after which construction slowed as the lots became denser. As of the year 2000 there were 13,457 homes within city limits. 13,226 of those were inhabited and a total of 10,136 homes were owner occupied. Though the homes do vary in size and architectural style, typical owner occupied homes have about three to four bedrooms versus rental homes which generally only have one or two. Finally, the median house sales price from the beginning of 12/07 to the end of 2/08 was $219,750 with and average cost per square foot of $216.
In 1996, to increase the flow of revenue into the municipality, Elk Grove Village and its Industrial Commercial Revitalization Commission undertook a major effort to revitalize its major Business Park. The purpose of the project was to rebuild and modernize the entire facility, and after more than a decade of work and the Commission has implemented nearly $20 million in improvements. Revitalization efforts aside, there are still numerous convenient local amenities only a short drive away. Local favorites include Elk Grove Township Community Center, Elk Crossing Shopping Center and Fox Run Golf Links. Additionally, all nine public recreation parks and the countless dining options are left out from this list above.
Children attend elementary and middle schools in either School District 59 or District 54 before heading to either James B. Conant High School in Township High School District 211 or Elk Grove High School in District 214. In addition, parents can rest assured when it comes to all health issues pertaining to their kids as Elk Grove Village is also home to the well-established Alexian Brothers Medical Center.
