Evanston Illinois Real Estate

Located just north of the Windy City, Evanston of Cook County, Illinois is one of Chicago’s most well-known suburbs.  With a population of over 75,000 and home to Northwestern University, the community was originally settled in the 1830’s and grew steadily during the 20th century.  Today, Evanston is both a college town and a hub of commercial and economic activity.

With over 30,000 residences split equally between owner-occupied and rented living quarters, the 7.8 square mile plot of land that is Evanston, Illinois is a pretty crowded suburb.  In fact, nearly there are nearly 4,000 single-family homes, apartments, condos and lofts per square mile in the city.  By February of 2008, the median sales price of an Evanston home was $362,000 where owner-occupied houses typically had 2-3 bedrooms and rented homes with 1-2.  The average price per square foot during this same period was $274.

As a dense metropolitan area which has undergone significant commercial and residential growth, residents of Evanston certainly do not have to travel to nearby Chicago to get their fill of local retail shops, restaurants, and entertainment.  In addition, Evanston is conveniently located near the shores of Lake Michigan and surrounded my several parks for recreation and to enjoy the open air.  In addition, the community is active in its continuous development of the downtown and surrounding areas.

Children in this highly populated urban area attend elementary schools, junior highs, and high schools all served by the Evanston-Skokie Community Consolidated School District 65. In addition, there are numerous parochial and private schools with and without religious affiliation to which parents can send their young children should they choose to do so.
