Lake Zurich Illinois Real Estate

A northern Chicago suburb in Lake County, Illinois, Lake Zurich is home to over 19,000 residents in friendly, quickly developing environment.  Originally incorporated as a village in 1896, the 6.8 square mile plot of land overlooking Lake Zurich remained primarily a farming community until housing development began in the 1950’s.  Even with its steady population growth through the latter half of the 20th century, the township has generally only attracted white, upper-middle class families to its borders.  Today, the village government’s plans to revitalize the downtown area with new businesses and residential complexes such as the Somerset townhomes are well underway.

With 5,804 homes almost entirely owner-occupied, the median house price in Lake Zurich has stayed relatively consistent for the past 5 years and was around $337,000 as of February 2008.  The majority of these single-family homes were built after 1970 with three or four bedrooms and, like many residences in the Chicago suburbs, illustrate a variety of architectural styles.

Now that a bypass rerouting Rt. 12 through Lake Zurich’s downtown business district has been completed, the township is only 45 minutes away from Chicago and easily accessible from nearby towns.  In addition, the new commercial developments in this district have allowed for an increase in small businesses on top of the convenient nearby amenities.  The Lake Zurich website now boasts a business directory of 527 local participants and a well-recognized chamber of commerce.

One of the most impressive aspects about this Lake County township are its active organizations and citizens.   Community recreation events are held at the local Paulus and Buffalo Creek Parks while local projects are well-funded and the village board meetings are well attended.  For the most part, Lake Zurich residents seem to all be on board when it comes to furthering the common goals of the community.  For this reason and many more, in 2006 Frommer’s named this township one of the top hundred “Best Places To Raise Your Family.”

Religiously affiliated private schools in the area include St. Francis de Sales, St. Matthew’s and Quentin Road Christian School.  For many families in Lake Zurich, however, they are fortunate to be served by the Community Unit School District 95 including six elementary schools, two junior highs, and Lake Zurich high school.
