Initially purchased in 1921 by Archbishop George Mundelein, the appropriately named suburb of Mundelein in Lake County, Illinois borders the serene Lake Michigan. Although they live only 37 miles from all the attractions of downtown Chicago, Mundelein residents do not go far for shopping, dining or entertainment. Located right off the 290 Interstate, the options for visitors and residents alike are truly endless. In addition, the city boasts limitless possibilities for recreation and exercise. Mundelein is home to the Village Green, Countryside, and Pine Meadow Golf Courses as well as the Parkview Health and Fitness Center. Residents can also cool off in the nearby Diamond Lake and the Barefoot Bay Aquatic Center while others perform with the Kirk Players Community Theatre Group.
Four different public school districts serve the Mundelein community. Children may attend pre K – 12 grades in the Fremont, Diamond Lake, Mundelein Elementary, or Mundelein Consolidated High School District. Local colleges also include Loyola University of Chicago and University of St. Mary of the Lake.
