Mundelein Illinois Real Estate

Initially purchased in 1921 by Archbishop George Mundelein, the appropriately named suburb of Mundelein in Lake County, Illinois borders the serene Lake Michigan. Home to more than 33,000 people and over 10,000 households, this diverse and friendly community was incorporated as a city in the spring of 1925.  Today, the city of Mundelein is a diverse blend of college students, single professionals and families of all ages, but still has not lost its historic feel.

To handle the notable influx of new residents in the past decade, Mundelein has seen a great deal of commercial and residential development.  Since 1996 more than 1300 new permits for single-home construction have been issued and average asking prices have steadily increased each year.  Because of their convenient proximity to Lake Michigan and Chicago, houses in this 8.62 square mile city are in high demand. Although the median value for homes according to Mundelein.org is just over $230K, in the final quarter of 2007 this value increased to nearly $285K.  Most residences are 2-4 bedroom single-family homes although apartment complexes and condos are available for the considerable college student population.  Similarly, the average household income is well over $75,000 per year which is around $25,000 higher than that for the state of Illinois.

Although they live only 37 miles from all the attractions of downtown Chicago, Mundelein residents do not go far for shopping, dining or entertainment.   Located right off the 290 Interstate, the options for visitors and residents alike are truly endless.  In addition, the city boasts limitless possibilities for recreation and exercise.  Mundelein is home to the Village Green, Countryside, and Pine Meadow Golf Courses as well as the Parkview Health and Fitness Center.  Residents can also cool off in the nearby Diamond Lake and the Barefoot Bay Aquatic Center while others perform with the Kirk Players Community Theatre Group.

Four different public school districts serve the Mundelein community.  Children may attend pre K – 12 grades in the Fremont, Diamond Lake, Mundelein Elementary, or Mundelein Consolidated High School District.  Local colleges also include Loyola University of Chicago and University of St. Mary of the Lake.
