Located in the northeast corner of the state, the city of Rolling Meadows is a suburb of Chicago in Cook County, Illinois. Home to over 23,000 residents in predominantly Caucasian and Hispanic neighborhoods, the 5.45 square miles was originally purchased in 1927 by H.D. “Curly” Brown to build a golf course. Today, the community is the site of steady economic growth while maintaining its affordable housing and strong education system.
The residential neighborhoods were developed over a period of about forty years between 1950 and 1989 with living quarters ranging from condominiums to single-family “cottages.” There are an estimated 9,098 the vast majority of which are inhabited and 7,786 of which are owner occupied. In spite of its consistent growth and development, Rolling Meadows real estate price have remained relatively stable. As of February 2008 the median house sales price was $236,250 with an average price per square foot of $203. Located right by the Rt. 53 one mile north of Interstate 90, Rolling Meadows has seen many commercial developments in the past decade. According to the 2003 residential survey, 45% of new residents mentioned that proximity to job location was among their chief reasons for moving to the city. The survey also indicated that the majority of citizens were more than pleased with the Rolling Meadows City Staff including the police and fire departments.
For nearby shopping and recreation, residents are also just two miles from Woodfield Mall and walking distance from Kimball Hill Park. In addition, parents and children in Rolling Meadows are served by several different school systems in Cook County. Students enrolled in grades K-8 attend schools in the Palatine Community, Schaumburg, or Community Consolidated School Districts. High school students are served by the Township High School District 211 and District 214.
