Schaumburg Illinois Real Estate

            Remaining almost exclusively under German ownership from 1870 until the mid 1930’s, the village known as Schaumburg in Cook County, Illinois got its name from those original European settlers who moved there long ago.  Today, however, the northern Chicago suburb is home to over 72,000 residents whose ancestries vary as much as their professions. 

            Most of the homes on this 19.0 square mile plot of land were built during the 1970’s and 80’s specifically because Schaumburg was not officially incorporated until 1956.  As of the year 2000 there were 33,073 homes within city limits. 31,747 of those were inhabited and a total of 22019 homes were owner occupied leaving about 30% to renters.  Though the homes do vary in size and architectural style, typical owner occupied homes have anywhere from two to four bedrooms as opposed to rental homes which generally only have one or two.  Looking at more recent data, the median house sales price from the beginning of 12/07 to the end of 2/08 was $221,500 with and average cost per square foot of $199.

            Resting at an elevation of 799 feet and conveniently located near the intersection of interstates 355 and 90, the business district of Schaumburg is both widespread and easily accessible.  The suburb’s business center contains more than 1,600 acres of industrial space consisting of nine industrial parks one of which is operated solely my Motorola.  In addition, the village has over 1100 acres of retail space, 1400 acres of office space, and a daytime population of over 150,000 people making it the second largest center of economic development in Illinois behind Chicago. 

            Besides its noticeable commercial activity, there are many other amenities in Schaumburg that make the village a warm and inviting community.  Local hot spots for recreation include any of the nine different parks within the city’s limits as well as the Walnut Greens and Schaumburg Golf Clubs.

            Children in the village attend elementary and middle schools in the Community Consolidated School District 54 whereas older students attend any of the four high schools in the Township High School District 211.
